Some Australian rules football fans in Qatar have said they want to leave the World Cup early after claiming their accommodation was ‘flooded with sewage’.

Fans were reportedly forced to queue overnight to have their rooms ready, only to then experience sewage leaks and no hot water.

Qatar World Cup officials have offered affected supporters a full refund and new accommodation – but some supporters are ready to go home.

Problems were reported in several housing villages including Free Zone Fan Village, Barwa Barahat Al Janoub Housing Unit, Zafaran Fan Village and Saffron Fan Village.

Angry Socceroos fans posted on social media, with many saying they are now considering selling their tickets.

‘Honestly, I don’t know what to do. We are considering selling our tickets and leaving early, but I think our chances of accommodation reimbursement are slim,” one wrote.

Another said: “Has anyone else in fan villages had a horrible experience?” Leak in bathroom causing flooding, no hot water, customer service was overwhelmed with complaints from people.

Others have told how their apartment was flooded with sewage, forcing them to seek accommodation elsewhere.

In a statement to The Sun Online, Qatar’s Supreme Committee officially blamed the check-in delays and poor conditions on the “negligence of the owner and operator”.

They also acknowledged that some units “did not meet the required standards that were announced to fans”, promising that “solving these issues remains the top priority”.

The statement adds, “Full refunds are being offered to fans severely affected by this issue along with alternative accommodation which will be free for the duration of their stay.”
