Two young children have been left without parents after a couple died four weeks apart in an ‘incomprehensible’ tragedy.

Chris Mills and Amie Walton died a month apart, leaving behind son Harry, 8, and daughter Mia, 6.

Amie, 30, was already in hospital at the time of the tragedy and receiving treatment for liver and bowel cancer while her partner Chris, 42, dutifully waited by her side.

But on July 18, Amie woke up to find her partner had died of a ruptured stomach ulcer right next to her as she slept.

Exactly four weeks later, Amie lost her battle with cancer and died at Good Hope Hospital on August 18. BirminghamLive Reports.

The couple’s funerals, at Kingstanding in Birmingham, took place within weeks of each other. Chris’s was held on August 8 and Amie was buried on September 12.

Both children are now being cared for by Amie’s mother, Tracey, who said their families will “raise their children as best we can”.

Tracey said the two families were focused on helping Amie through her illness when Chris died suddenly and unexpectedly.

She said Amie was “so brave” after her partner’s shock death, but died a few weeks later.

Local shopkeeper Bal Singh was devastated to learn of the deaths of two of his customers and decided to set up a fundraising page to help raise money for Harry and Mia.

Mr Singh said: “Harry and Mia hold a special place in our hearts. Losing a parent at such a young and tender age is painful, but losing both parents is beyond devastating.

“The circumstances were incomprehensible and affected every person.

“We come together as a collective community to do our best for Harry and Mia and I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to each and everyone for their support in playing an important role in the well-being not only of Harry and Mia but for their families too.

Tracey said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved helping to raise money for my grandchildren. We’ve all had a very difficult and tough time lately.

“We were all busy focusing on helping Amie through her illness and preparing for what lay ahead when we had the massive shock of Chris passing unexpectedly.

“Amie was so brave and forged herself to get through it, which I was so proud of her for.

“Once Chris’ funeral was over, Amie went to her father’s house for a break in Devon where she sadly passed away a few days later.

“We will continue to live with them in our hearts and do our best to raise their children as best we can.

“Again, thank you to Bal and everyone for their continued support, lots of love.”
