Derry Girls came to an end earlier this year after three successful seasons that earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Scripted Comedy. Actress Nicola Coughlan, who played Clare Devlin, admitted in June that she had not watched the finale despite it airing in May.

“You know what, I haven’t watched the finale yet, because I was in LA when it came out,” Coughlan said before discussing how difficult it was for the show to end.

“That day I just cried and cried because it felt like the end of an era. It’s been five years of my life. It was such a huge job for me and people were so connected to it. , so I’m hanging on to watch it.”

When the finale aired in May, McGee opened up about how COVID affected his original version of the final episode and how different it could have been.

“[The episode] would have been [different] before our dates got pushed back due to COVID,” McGee said.

“There was a version of that that was just funny-funny, and the Good Friday party and deal – that was just your typical Derry Girls, where they were like, ‘This is extremely boring,’ and there was no romance between Michelle and Erin.”

Derry Girls is available to stream on All4.
