Doctor Who fans can expect a Christmas present, with a hint that a teaser – maybe even a trailer – for the 60th anniversary specials will arrive sometime on Sunday (December 25).
Three-hour episodes are set to air in November 2023, starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Fourteenth Doctor and his companion Donna. Russell T Davies is also returning to the series as showrunner.
A five-second teaser featuring guest star Neil Patrick Harris’ character declaring a “world’s first” has been released on the official website. Doctor Who social media on Christmas Eve, with a single word in the caption: “Tomorrow”.

Anniversary episodes should explain why The Doctor regenerated with a familiar face – and what leads to another regeneration in the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.
Little is also known so far about who Harris is playing, with fan speculation that he could play the celestial toymaker.
You can also expect to see guest stars including Heart stroke‘s Yasmin Finney as a mysterious new character named Rose in the 60th anniversary miniseries. It was also widely speculated that the late Bernard Cribbins would reprise the role of Wilfred Mott, Donna’s grandfather.

Tennant has previously stated that his return to Doctor Who after his initial stint as the Tenth Doctor was kind of an accident, after talking to Davies and Tate while watching their episodes online during the COVID lockdowns.
“Catherine and I were texting, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to do it again?'” he recalled. “And Russell was like, ‘We could do a one-off, maybe they’d let us. “”

Doctor Who fans also recently got their first look at Gatwa in her costume, alongside Fifteen’s mate Ruby Sunday, who will be played by the former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson.
Gatwa also shared some behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the set, including a first look outside his TARDIS.
Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ somewhere else. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who flow on Brit Box the UK.
