Walford will welcome Jonny Freeman as Reiss Colwell, EastEnders Dot Branning’s fan-favorite great-nephew and Sonia Fowler’s new love interest.
The kind-hearted, cardigan-loving character is a distant relative of Dot, who was played by June Brown before her passing earlier this year. According to Colwell’s extensive family tree, Reiss’ grandfather’s brother was Bob Colwell, Dot’s father.
Although the family hasn’t always been close and only sees each other occasionally, Reiss feels compelled to attend Dot’s upcoming funeral after learning of her death.

At the service, he and Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) bond over their love of Dot. There seems to be a spark between them too, but only time will tell if they choose to pursue this instant connection.
Freeman, whom you may recognize silent witness and Boy Topsaid he was “delighted” to be part of EastEnders.
“I am thrilled to join the cast of EastEndersespecially as part of the iconic Dot Branning’s extended family,” the actor shared in a statement.

“Everyone has been so welcoming and I’m so lucky to have worked so closely with the lovely Natalie Cassidy who is not just a fantastic actress but a lovely person; she has been so kind to help me navigate my first weeks.
“I hope I can do Reiss justice. He’s nice but socially awkward and seeing how he handles, or doesn’t handle, his first interactions with Sonia and those close to him has been quite interesting! I can’t wait to see how the public and the people of Walford respond to him.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show is also streaming on BBC iPlayer.
