Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant hopes for bigger scripts from Jacob

Joe-Warren Plant plays Jacob Gallagher in Emmerdaleand is known to be a miraculously well-adjusted character despite the many hardships we can expect for the inhabitants of the village.

Now, however, his character has grown and taken on new responsibilities, and Joe-Warren is ready for Jacob’s storylines to be amped up.

The actor spoke to interior soap about his commitment to the show and what he sees for Jacob’s future.

Speaking of his dedication to the village, he explained, “It was only three or four years after working in Emmerdale I realized how lucky I was. When you’re so young, you don’t understand the caliber of the show.

“But I had about six months off when I didn’t know if I was going to come back, and everything started to sink in. I realized how Emmerdale was and how many people are watching it, and I thought, ‘Wow, I have to stay and this and take it seriously!'”

And, it turns out, there’s a practical reason Jacob doesn’t get so much screen time, with the character currently undertaking a degree in hopes of becoming a doctor.

He joked: “Jacob has been pretty quiet – but you wouldn’t want scenes of him reviewing would you? Hopefully it picks up soon because I miss work when I’m not around. I get lazy, to be honest. I need a purpose for the day to get up. I’m happiest when I’m at work.

Joe-Warren’s desire for Jacob to see more action couldn’t come at a better time, with his parents going through breakups and personal issues. The actor predicts this will put Jacob front and center.

“He will definitely play a role in these relationships, without giving anything away! He is always there for David and Leyla, and he will try to give them good advice,” he said.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and airs on ITVX.
