‘England getting robbed!’: Furious Three Lions fans slam the decision not to award Harry Kane a penalty after he appeared to be knocked to the ground by France defender Dayot Upamecano during their clash in world Cup
England fans were left in disbelief after Harry Kane was not awarded a penalty after appearing to be knocked down by Dayot Upamecano.
Kane and his teammates responded well as they fell behind Aurelien Tchouameni’s long shot, pushing back the French defense and creating a number of openings.
The England captain had picked up the ball on the right side and grabbed the French centre-back before being knocked down by the Bayern Munich star.

There was a short delay as Wilton Sampaio waited to be told by VAR whether he should go to the monitor to review his initial decision. However, soon after he stirred up play, leaving fans in Qatar and at home puzzled by the decision.
The call from VAR may have been that the contact was initiated outside the area – outside of his jurisdiction in this case. However, fans were still questioning the referee’s failure to assign a foul.
“Omg England has been robbed!” one supporter wrote.

‘How is that not a penalty?! F****** shambles,’ another wrote in agreement.
Rob Green on 5Live suggested that starting outside the area was why VAR didn’t get another look.
“The only suggestion I can make is that it wasn’t in the penalty area but Kane went down in the box, it looked like it,” he said. “There are definitely contacts in and around the area.”

Meanwhile, ITV’s Lee Dixon was shocked the referee wasn’t sent to his monitor for another look.
“There’s a leg in there, it looks like it might be slightly outside the box,” he said. ‘Upamencano, his leg goes between Kane’s legs. I think it’s a fault.
Peter Walton, ruling on refereeing decisions for ITV at this year’s World Cup, agreed with Dixon.
Earlier in the play, England had to question the Brazil official after he failed to charge Bukayo Saka with a foul during the build-up to Tchouameni’s first-half goal.
Saka was fouled just 25 seconds before the first goal of the match.
