Ferrari Sheppard Designs Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A9

Any audiophile knows that a good speaker makes the home a sensory musical experience, and Danish luxury brand Bang & Olufsen often leads the pack when it comes to quality and design. Today, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Beoplay A9, Bang & Olufsen unveils its collaboration with vinyl lifestyle curator 12on12 and multidisciplinary abstract artist Ferrari Sheppard, enlisting the latter to create a unique cover for B&O’s iconic speaker – with its 2021 piece My name is Sarah.

12on12 has earned a reputation for giving musical talents a different kind of lyrical waxing canvas, bringing them back to the vinyl format where they are also allowed to be visually and artistically creative. As a result, he produced a number of limited edition art cover vinyls, just like the one that accompanies this drop.

Swizz Beatz – a major player in 12on12 – has selected one of Ferrari Sheppard’s artworks and turned it into a limited edition of his vinyl Long live Jazz!which in many ways echoes the golden tones underpinned by Sheppards’ work with its soft, rich sound.

Speaking about the project, Beatz said, “It’s the perfect combo of art and jazz. Ferrari is a creative force in the art world. His work makes you feel something special! It moves your soul and your spirit. Jazz is a creative force in music. When these two elements come together, it creates moments of healing, love, peace and pleasure. Long live art and long live jazz.

Writer Kristina Kay Robinson said of the play: “My name is Sarah is a beautiful mystery. Just like jazz, its possibilities are endless. Sheppard’s intricate multiplicity of strokes and line drawings provide independence for everyone while working in unison to create the universe of paint form.

Only 40 speakers are to be made, while there will only be 12 limited edition hand-finished prints by the artist and on the outside cover of the second issue of Long live Jazz!accompanied by 30 hand-finished pieces by the artist.

For Bang & Olufsen, this is just the beginning, as it launches its “Art of the A9” series which will continue to bring artists to the iconic enclosure. Take a look at the one written by Ferrari Sheppard above and pick one up at select Bang & Olufsen showrooms from November 29 for US$3,799.
