The first images of Taika Waititi’s next film The next goal winswith Michael Fassbender, are here.
The film, based on true events, follows the American Samoa soccer team after they hired coach Thomas Rongen in 2001 to help turn things around after losing 31-0 to Australia.
Master of the Fass (Prometheus, Steve Jobs, X-Men: First Class) plays the role of Rongen. Elisabeth Moss will play Rongen’s ex-wife and Will Arnott will play a fictional football executive.

David Fane, Beulah Koale, Lehi Falepapalangi, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu and Rachel House round out the film’s cast.
Talk to Weekly entertainment about the project, Waititi compared the film to the 1993 classic cool races, calling it a “story about the worst football team in the world”.
“History is about the worst football team in the world, which suffered the biggest defeat in an international match against Australia, 31-0, or about one goal every four minutes,” he said. he declares. “I love stories of the underdog. Most of my films are about people who live on the fringes or who are a little left behind, and that suits me perfectly.
“It’s a true story, but it has all the elements that all great sports movies have. It’s basically the Cool races of football.”

Waititi added that he was inspired to make the film after watching the documentary of the same name in 2014, saying: “Years ago I watched it and couldn’t believe I hadn’t never heard of this story before.
“I had never done a sports movie before, and I really wanted to try that.”
The next goal wins hits theaters in April 2023.
