Note that this area is only available at the end of the game, so make sure you’ve reached the credits before scrolling. That said, we’ve kept the identity of the prisoner anonymous throughout the first section of the guide so as not to spoil the surprise.
Here’s how to navigate the side quest “The Shattered Prison” in God of War Ragnarökhow to solve the puzzle to get to the ground floor and where to find the prisoner through the Nine Kingdoms.
God of War Ragnarök The Broken Prison Walkthrough – How to Solve the Puzzle
Once you’ve completed the main story, head to Niflheim and walk towards the crow tree – Kratos will note a new path on the left. “The Broken Prison” will start automatically.
Here’s the gist: The prison has multiple floors, each with a group of Asgardian soldiers to walk through. Additionally, you can open some of the cells needed to advance in favor or complete other tasks. Next to the Nornir chest, you can also find a flower for the “Nine Blooming Kingdoms” side quest.
As soon as you head towards the prison, take care of the first group of enemies. Now you’re going to need a way to get to the first floor below. Fire a spear at the red moving mechanism, then move towards it (looking at the spear horizontally) to swing and land on the second floor.
Another group of enemies to take care of. Once they’re dealt with, use the chain in the corner to lower the mechanism – repeat the same step to swing and land on the second floor below.
Now deal with the enemy group and look for an open cell around a blue wall, which bears the markings of a platform you can interact with. Defeat the elf inside and enter the cell – look towards the entrance to the room and pierce the wall with your Chaos Blades. You will find yourself on the previous floor. Once there, open the sliding door that is right in front of the Nornir Chest.
On the ground floor you will see another mechanism on the opposite side to the one we used – we’ll call the first one we used Mechanism Aand this new will be Mechanism B. So, from the second floor, aim and throw a spear towards mechanism B to create a swing.
You can use mechanism B to access part of the ground floor, but Freya will quickly mention that there must be a way to access the “cell on the other side”, where our mysterious prisoner is. .
So you go back to the top floor and then use the elf cell path to go up one floor. Use the chain there to get mechanism A down all the way – the key here is to have both mechanisms on the top floor.
Now go back using the path to the elf cell and back down using the A mechanic. Deal with the last enemy guarding the cell and interact with the door as soon as you are ready. Once you talk to the prisoner inside, “The Broken Prison” will be over. But there is still a lot to do.
Where to find Tyr in God of War Ragnarök after Niflheim
As abrupt as your encounter with Tyr (the real Tyr!) It’s that you can run into him several more times – six times, to be exact. Don’t expect huge reveals, but you will hear some interesting dialogue. Here’s where to find Tyr in God of War Ragnaröknext to the exact mystical gateways you need to use:
Location of Svartalfheim Tire – The Watchtower
In Svartalfheim, use The Watchtower bridge. Once there, head to the left side and use your blades to jump over the platform. Then take a small right turn to find the Tire overlooking Lyngbakr Island. (Keep in mind that I had already completed the “The Weight of Chains” boon, which is tied to what the prisoner has to say. So if you don’t see Tyr immediately, take care of that first. this side quest.)
Location of Midgard Tire – Lake of Nine
In Midgard, head to the Lake of Nine. As you patrol, you’ll see a staircase that leads to a platform overlooking the center of the area – it’s on the slope that you can see on the map as you head towards King’s Grave on the northeast corner. As you cross the stairs, you will find Tyr staring at his destroyed statue.
Vanaheim Tire Location – Freyr’s Camp
In Vanaheim, use the walkway to Freyr’s Camp. Board the boat and head to the camp area. Once there, you will see Tire on the left side of the camp, surrounded by small statues. You can not miss it.
Location of Alfheim Tire – The Strönd
In Alfheim, head towards The Strönd. From there, take the path to the left and keep crossing it until you have passed the bridge. Go through the cave and once outside you will immediately come across Tyr towering over the light in the sky.
Location of Muspelheim Tire – Spark of the World
In Muspelheim, head towards the burning cliffs bridge. Then you’ll need to head back to Surtr’s Forge and follow the path down through the cave until you return to the Spark of the World. Tyr has a few things to stay in the far corner of the area, where Surtr has already jumped during the main story.
Helheim – Hel’s Roost
In Helheim, head towards Hel’s Roost. Move to the left hallway immediately after exiting the walkway, which leads to Hel’s Perch itself. There you will find Tyr one last time, staring at the crow.
