Here’s how to navigate the side quest “The Shattered Prison” in God of War Ragnarökhow to solve the puzzle to get to the ground floor and where to find the prisoner through the Nine Kingdoms.

God of War Ragnarök The Broken Prison Walkthrough – How to Solve the Puzzle

Once you’ve completed the main story, head to Niflheim and walk towards the crow tree – Kratos will note a new path on the left. “The Broken Prison” will start automatically.

Here’s the gist: The prison has multiple floors, each with a group of Asgardian soldiers to walk through. Additionally, you can open some of the cells needed to advance in favor or complete other tasks. Next to the Nornir chest, you can also find a flower for the “Nine Blooming Kingdoms” side quest.

As soon as you head towards the prison, take care of the first group of enemies. Now you’re going to need a way to get to the first floor below. Fire a spear at the red moving mechanism, then move towards it (looking at the spear horizontally) to swing and land on the second floor.

Another group of enemies to take care of. Once they’re dealt with, use the chain in the corner to lower the mechanism – repeat the same step to swing and land on the second floor below.

Now deal with the enemy group and look for an open cell around a blue wall, which bears the markings of a platform you can interact with. Defeat the elf inside and enter the cell – look towards the entrance to the room and pierce the wall with your Chaos Blades. You will find yourself on the previous floor. Once there, open the sliding door that is right in front of the Nornir Chest.

On the ground floor you will see another mechanism on the opposite side to the one we used – we’ll call the first one we used Mechanism Aand this new will be Mechanism B. So, from the second floor, aim and throw a spear towards mechanism B to create a swing.

You can use mechanism B to access part of the ground floor, but Freya will quickly mention that there must be a way to access the “cell on the other side”, where our mysterious prisoner is. .

So you go back to the top floor and then use the elf cell path to go up one floor. Use the chain there to get mechanism A down all the way – the key here is to have both mechanisms on the top floor.

Now go back using the path to the elf cell and back down using the A mechanic. Deal with the last enemy guarding the cell and interact with the door as soon as you are ready. Once you talk to the prisoner inside, “The Broken Prison” will be over. But there is still a lot to do.
