Karim Benzema ‘could REVERSE his decision to retire from international football if Zinedine Zidane replaces France manager Didier Deschamps’… as striker admits he ‘made mistakes’ after being kicked out of World Cup
French superstar Karim Benzema could reverse his decision to retire from international football if Zinedine Zidane succeeds Didier Deschamps as national team manager.
France were beaten 4-2 on penalties by Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup final, missing out on back-to-back trophies after winning the Russia 2018 tournament.
Deschamps’ future as manager of the France national team is expected to be decided in the coming weeks, and he is said to have a meeting with FFF president Noel Le Graet in January.

The 35-year-old superstar took to Instagram to announce his decision on Monday afternoon
Benzema, who missed the World Cup in Qatar after sustaining an injury on the eve of the tournament, decided to end his international career following France’s defeat in the final.
Confirming his retirement on Monday, the striker said on social media: “I made the effort and the mistakes to be where I am today and I’m proud of it.” I have written my story and ours is coming to an end.
Reportedly, Benzema, who is now back to full fitness, rejected the opportunity to return to Qatar for the final after falling out with Deschamps.

His announcement came following a reported spat with France boss Didier Deschamps

The Foot Mercato newspaper claim that Benzema would consider returning to the French side provided Zidane replaces Deschamps at the helm.
Deschamps refused to confirm whether he would stay on as France manager following his side’s heartbreaking defeat in Qatar.
Toni Kroos has since backed Zidane – his former Real Madrid manager – to take over as head coach of the France national team.

“I really think that Zizou would not only be a good successor but the best possible successor,” Kroos insisted on Monday, as quoted by Diario AS.
“The big question is: what does Didier Deschamps want? I would say that Zizou has a 70/30 chance of becoming France’s new coach.
“I think he really wants to get back on the training ground.”
