The British Fashion Council (BFC) is delighted to work with multidisciplinary artist and designer Yinka Illori, ethical and eco-friendly jewelery company SkyDiamond and glass design studio The Glass Foundry to create the Fashion Awards trophy. 2022 presented by Diet Coke. The event will take place on Monday December 5, 2022, returning to the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Comprised of multicolored glass spikes that represent the many creative roles within the fashion industry, the trophy, which showcases Yinka Ilori’s signature work with color, tells a story of the power of fashion at the intersection of the culture. New this year, each trophy is encrusted with an ethical and eco-friendly diamond made conflict-free using SkyDiamond’s renewable energy.

The trophy, which was handcrafted at The Glass Foundry in the Cotswolds, highlights the need for creative collaboration and eco-innovation and demonstrates how design can bring communities together and positively impact the society, evoking a sense of joy and optimism.

Yinka Illori, multidisciplinary artist and designer, said: “In collaboration with SkyDiamond and The Glass Foundry, we have built a sculptural trophy in agglomerated glass. The trophy represents the energy and synergy between the designers and celebrates a sense of unity. This trophy also symbolizes the power of culture

seen in today’s industry. It’s a celebration of designers who recognize and honor their individualism and heritage through their work. I hope it serves as a powerful message to all winners.” Dale Vince OBE, Founder of SkyDiamond said: “This is the first time in the history of the Awards that each individual trophy has been encrusted with a diamond. And not just any diamond except a diamond from heaven. SkyDiamonds are the rarest diamonds on the planet, which makes the trophies even more unique.

Yinka Ilori is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose bold visual language draws on her British and Nigerian heritage to convey new narratives through contemporary design. Inspired by Nigerian parables

and verbal traditions, Ilori tackles a multitude of themes that resonate with a global audience. Her work is underpinned by the belief that art and design should be accessible to everyone.

SkyDiamond is the brainchild of entrepreneur and environmentalist Dale Vince. Based in the Cotswolds, SkyDiamond uses a revolutionary process that extracts the sky from atmospheric carbon and transforms it into real diamonds in its UK-based factory, using renewable energy. SkyDiamond is the only carbon negative diamond in the world because of its design, not its compensation.

The Glass Foundry is a full-service glass design studio in the Cotswolds, with 20 years of collaborative practice. Led by glass artist, sculptor Fiaz Elson, with collaborators in interiors, architectural design and landscaping; the foundry carries out creative glass material applications for a wide range of industries.

The Fashion Awards presented by Diet Coke raise funds for the BFC Foundation (registered charity number: 1185152) which supports the future growth and success of the UK fashion industry focusing on talent, education, grantmaking and business mentorship and aims to improve equality and opportunity for the fashion industry to remain diverse and open to all, supporting talented designers at all stages of their careers, from school level to becoming a global fashion brand. In the 2021/2022 financial year, the BFC awarded over £1.3 million in funds to designers and scholars.
