The latest trailer for the Super Mario Bros. shows Mario karting along a beautiful rainbow road

The movie Super Mario Bros. is just around the corner, and with that comes trailers and previews of what to expect. While we were aware of our first trailer in October, which featured Chris Pratt’s Mario and Jack Black’s Bowser (as well as a singing toad), Nintendo and Illumination have since revealed a second trailer for the film.

Throughout the trailer, there’s a lot to unpack. Sure, we see more of the charming but intimidating Bowser, hear more of Chris Pratt’s abysmal Mario voice, and we see Toad being as lovable as can be. But that’s not even close to all the two-minute trailer had to show.

Peach finally makes her debut, wide-eyed and adorned in rose, while being an absolute badass. Personally, I’d expect nothing less from Anya Taylor Joy’s take on the prolific damsel in distress. Plus, we hear from Charlie Day’s Luigi, which is nothing short of awesome when paired with another long look at Bowser. And, of course, we see Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong beating Mario to absolute mush.

What an adorable duo.

As for the setting, the latest Super Mario Bros. features a simply stunning Mushroom Kingdom filled with Cheep Cheeps, Piranha Plants, and other familiar treats fans of the franchise will recognize from afar. The interior of Peach’s Castle certainly looks princess-worthy, and the platforming designs we know from the games even show up in the trailer.

Not only that, but we get a glimpse of Tanooki Mario, the Fire Power Up of the games, Yoshi’s hordes, and, of course, go-karting. Even in light of all the Mario game references we’ve seen so far, I was still surprised to see go-karts being incorporated into the film.

Will there be high-speed racing in the Super Mario Bros. movie? ?

Not just any old go-kart either, Mario, Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong and the whole crew take off and race down a beautifully reimagined rainbow road in their respective karts, bikes and in Toad’s caseā€¦ a monster truck? I can’t say I’m surprised.

At one point, we even see Mario lean into the plumbing; something I didn’t know this plumbing duo had actually done. I thought they were always too busy saving people like Peach to finish a job, but who knows? Guess Mushroom Kingdom has some plumbing to take care of, after all.

Can we actually see Mario doing some plumbing for once?

Now, after this packed trailer, I’m left with just one question: where the hell are Wario and Waluigi? Here’s hoping the prolific rivals get some screen time too.

What do you think of the latest Super Mario Bros. movie trailer? ? What to be excited or put off by the fact that Chris Pratt does not look like Mario?
