Will ‘Violent Night’ with David Harbor be on Netflix?

Violent Night – Picture: Universal Pictures

One of the biggest Christmas movies coming out in 2022 is violent night with stranger things David Harbor star. The film hits theaters on December 2, but will it be available on Netflix? The answer depends on where you live.

David Harbour, who stars as Hopper in Netflix’s flagship series Stranger Things, takes on the role of Santa Claus in this comedy thriller from Universal Pictures.

The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola and sees Harbor stars alongside Beverly D’Angelo, John Leguizamo and Cam Gigandet and so far it’s been a bit of a box office hit.

Per TMDB, here’s what you can expect if you catch the movie in theaters this holiday season or expect it on other platforms:

“When a team of mercenaries burst into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team is unprepared for a surprise fighter: Santa Claus is on the ground, and he’s about to show why this Nick isn’t a saint.”

Violent Night won’t be on Netflix in the US until 2026

Netflix US will get Violent Night through a deal made in 2021 for all upcoming Universal movies, but that won’t be for a while.

If we look at the announcement of the agreement, the part that concerns violent night is the next:

“As part of the agreement, Netflix will also license the rights to UFEG’s full animated and live-action slate approximately 4 years after its release, as well as title-selection rights across the vast Universal’s film library.”

This means Violent Night won’t be on Netflix until 2026. Prior to that, Peacock and Prime Video in the US will share first window rights (expected to be available in 2023).

Will Violent Night be on Netflix internationally?

Yes, but unlike the US, windowing isn’t as easy to follow or as well publicized.

Central European countries currently receive new Universal films within 3 months of their theatrical debut, based on the addition of The 355 in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia earlier this year. In these countries, you will receive the film in early 2023.

Netflix in South Korea is getting new Universal movies about a year after their theatrical debut, which would mean they’ll be getting violent night end of 2023.

For most Netflix users in countries like Canada, Japan, South Africa, India, and the UK, you receive new Universal movies about 2.5 years after they hit theaters. That means you won’t see it on Netflix until at least 2024.

Of course, Netflix has its collection of new (and old) Christmas movies for you to enjoy. Some new Netflix 2022 Christmas movies include Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, The Christmas Diaryand I believe in Santa Claus.

If you need more David Harbor in your life, Netflix has a few other titles you need to check out.

Harbor featured in Chris Hemsworth’s action thriller Extraction, narrated in the nature documentary series anime, lent his voice to Q-Force and headlined the bizarre special Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster. The fifth season of Stranger Things is coming, more we have a ghost.
